Garden patios in Bristol, designed to suit your garden.

Porcelain, Indian sandstone, limestone and natural stone patios across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Designed around how you actually use your garden, then laid on a full mortared bed by our own bricklayers and patio fitters.

About garden patios

A patio that works in winter, not just on the two sunny weekends.

A good patio in Bristol does the unglamorous work as well as the photogenic stuff. It drains in November, doesn't grow green algae in February and doesn't lift in July. We lay every patio on a full mortared bed over a proper sub-base, with deliberate falls and threshold drainage where needed.

We work in porcelain, Indian sandstone, limestone and natural stone. Your call, but we'll always recommend the right material for the orientation, drainage and use. Mitred porcelain edges, picture-framed borders and built-in step details are all done in-house by our own team.

Designed around your garden

We design the patio around how you actually sit out and eat: sun, shade, garden-door swing, where the BBQ lives.

Full mortared bed

Every slab on a full mortared bed, not spot-bedded. Holds level, doesn't rock, doesn't lift.

Drainage by design

Falls are calculated, threshold drains fitted where needed, and porcelain is laid with the right joint spacing.

Picture-framed & mitred details

Picture-framed borders, mitred porcelain corners and integrated steps, all done in-house, not subbed out.

Indian sandstone patio path
Natural stoneIndian SandstoneWarm, characterful riven stone in buff, grey and mixed tones. A long-standing favourite in Bristol gardens.
Very low porosity, so it resists stains and moss. Sharp, even lines for contemporary gardens.
Period-appropriate and beautifully riven. Best on traditional Bath stone and Pennant fronts.

FAQ

Common questions

What's the difference between porcelain and Indian sandstone?

Porcelain is denser, more uniform, has near-zero porosity and needs almost no maintenance, but it is harder to cut. Indian sandstone is naturally riven, warmer-toned and forgives small imperfections. We install both regularly across Bristol; the right choice depends on the garden, the orientation and the look you're after.

Do I need to seal my patio?

Porcelain doesn't need sealing because its porosity is too low for sealant to bond. Indian sandstone and limestone benefit from a one-coat impregnating sealer to slow staining; we apply this as standard on every natural stone patio we lay. Re-sealing every 3-5 years is sensible.

How long will a patio take?

A standard 25-35m² Bristol garden patio takes 4 to 6 working days, weather permitting. Larger patios or those with steps, walls or feature details take longer. We commit to a finish date in writing before any deposit is paid.

Can you build steps and walls at the same time?

Yes, and we usually recommend doing it as one project. Our bricklayers build retaining walls, steps and planters in the same trip, which keeps the design coherent and means one project rather than two.

Will it grow green and slippery in winter?

Porcelain doesn't. Indian sandstone and limestone can develop algae on north-facing patios; a sealer slows it dramatically and a yearly pressure wash deals with the rest. We design every patio with proper falls so water doesn't sit.
