What is imprinted concrete
One slab, dozens of patterns, sealed for the long term.
Imprinted concrete is poured as one reinforced slab, coloured through with iron-oxide pigment, then stamped with rubber moulds while still wet to imitate cobblestone, brick, slate, ashlar and more. Once cured, the surface is sealed with a UV-stable acrylic to lock in the colour and protect against staining.
The result is the look of natural stone or brick in one continuous slab, with no joints to weed and no individual units to subside. We've installed imprinted concrete driveways across Bristol for over 20 years and still re-seal jobs we laid in the early 2000s.

How we install it
Our 4-stage imprinted concrete process.
Imprinted concrete is a one-shot pour and the timing is everything. We work in tight crews to pour, colour, stamp and finish before the slab sets.
Site survey & prep
Free Bristol visit, design and pattern choice. Existing surface removed, formwork set out, drainage and edging detailed.
Reinforced sub-base
Type 1 MOT compacted, then reinforced steel mesh laid for crack control. Drains and channels collared in.
Pour, colour & stamp
Concrete poured to depth, colour-hardener broadcast, then rubber mats stamped in while the slab is plastic.
Cure & seal
Slab cures for 48 hours, then washed clean, jointed up and sealed with two coats of UV-stable acrylic.

Plan the joints, drainage and aftercare
Compare the pattern and border with the proposed joint positions. Ask the written quote to identify the colour system, drainage, sealer and maintenance requirements, with clear advice on when pedestrian and vehicle access can resume.
For front-garden paving, check the official guidance on permeable surfacing and any restrictions with your local planning authority.
FAQ
Common questions
Will the concrete crack?
Properly reinforced and detailed, no. We mesh-reinforce every slab and cut control joints into the stamping pattern so any movement happens at predictable, hidden lines. Crack-free installations are the norm for us, and our 5-year guarantee covers cracking specifically.
How often does it need re-sealing?
Every 3 to 5 years, depending on traffic. The acrylic seal protects the colour from UV and stops oil and tyre marks penetrating. We offer re-sealing as a stand-alone service for Bristol homeowners with existing imprinted concrete driveways.
Will the colour fade over time?
The colour is through-pigmented, so even when the surface seal wears, the colour stays in the slab. A fresh re-seal restores the original wet look. We've re-sealed driveways we laid 15 years ago and they look like new again.
Is it slippery when wet?
We add an anti-slip grit to the sealer on every driveway, ramp or slope. Done properly, imprinted concrete is no more slippery than block paving in the wet, and we'll always recommend a higher anti-slip mix on inclines.
