Marshalls Tegula, Tobermore Sienna and Brett Alpha Flow: compare the right details

A block range name tells you more than a general request for grey or traditional paving, but it is still only the starting point.

Block paving with a contrasting triangular border

A block range name tells you more than a general request for grey or traditional paving, but it is still only the starting point. Marshalls Drivesett Tegula, Tobermore Sienna and Brett Alpha Flow represent different design directions. Compare the exact products and complete installation systems rather than treating the names as interchangeable.

Appearance and character

For a Tegula selection, confirm the exact product variant, colour and sizes being proposed. Different variants should not be assumed to have identical installation or drainage characteristics. View a group of samples rather than relying on a single block.

Tobermore describes Sienna as having a granite aggregate surface layer. That gives it a particular appearance, but should not be confused with paving cut from solid natural granite. Look at the texture beside the house and from normal viewing distance.

Brett describes Alpha Flow as a permeable product with tumbled edges. Its visual character and specified permeable construction should be considered together. A similar-looking conventional block does not automatically provide the same water-management system.

Ask the same questions of each proposal

Compare the intended loading, available layout, edge detail and drainage arrangement. Confirm the exact current product information and availability before deciding. A range that looks right still needs to work with the shape and use of the driveway.

Physical samples help separate colour from texture. If one sample is dark and another pale, you may be reacting to their tones rather than the differences between the ranges. Compare similar colour families where possible.

Keep the final selection precise

Record manufacturer, product variant, colour, size and the relevant system details. Retain spare units where appropriate. These records help future maintenance, repairs and extensions.

Selection rule: Choose the appearance you prefer only after confirming the actual product suits the driveway's loading, layout and drainage design. A familiar brand name is useful information, not a substitute for a complete specification.
