A shallow dip beneath a parked car is not usually solved by putting extra sand over the surface. Block paving depends on support beneath the units. When that support changes, the blocks can follow it, leaving a rut that collects water or makes the driveway look uneven.
Look beyond the displaced blocks
Record where the dip starts and ends. Does it sit in the wheel tracks, follow an old service trench or appear beside an inspection cover? Is the border moving too? These observations help distinguish a local defect from a wider construction problem.
Do not assume every uneven area has the same cause. A poorly reinstated trench, local washout, unsuitable fill or movement at an edge can produce different repair requirements. If water has been carrying fine material away, lifting and relaying the top blocks alone leaves the cause in place.
What a considered repair involves
The affected blocks are normally lifted so the underlying layers can be inspected. The repair area needs to extend far enough to reach sound construction and restore the required levels. The appropriate bedding and jointing materials depend on whether the driveway is conventional or permeable.
Existing blocks may be reusable if they remain sound. Keep their order or blend them carefully when relaying, because weathering can make a small patch stand out. Any broken units need a suitable match rather than a different thickness hidden in the repair.
Decide whether the problem is local
A driveway with one settled trench and stable surrounding paving may suit a targeted repair. Repeated depressions, failed edges and widespread movement suggest a broader assessment. The right decision follows inspection rather than the size of the first visible puddle.
After repair, watch the area through normal use and rainfall. Fresh settlement, persistent water or loose joints warrants a follow-up. A successful repair should restore support and drainage, not simply make the surface look flat on the day it is finished.
Avoid: Repeatedly packing material into joints without finding out why the blocks are moving.
