A patio that visually connects with a kitchen can look appealing, particularly beside broad glazed doors. The outdoor level must still work with the building's moisture protection, threshold and drainage details. A photograph of a seamless transition is not a construction specification.
Start with the doorway system
Check the door manufacturer's requirements and the existing building details. Damp-proofing, air bricks and drainage features should not be covered merely to create a flush-looking surface. The appropriate solution depends on the particular house and threshold.
Discuss accessibility needs at the same time. A low transition and effective water management need a coordinated detail rather than one concern being solved at the expense of the other. Where required, involve the appropriate building professional.
Plan where rainwater goes
Surface falls, a suitable channel or another designed arrangement may form part of the solution. A drain immediately outside the door still needs a lawful, effective destination and access for cleaning. Its visible presence alone does not prove the threshold is protected.
Consider wind-driven rain and water arriving from the surrounding garden. The patio should not become a shallow collection area because its outer edge is higher or a border has blocked the intended route.
Test the layout in use
Mark furniture positions and the walking line out from the doors. A channel should not become an awkward obstacle, and a narrow strip of paving should not be forced between the drain and threshold without thought.
Keep the finished detail documented, including the drainage route. That information is valuable if doors are changed, a patio is extended or maintenance is needed later.
Ask before laying: How will this exact doorway keep water out, preserve the building's ventilation and moisture details, and provide the access we need? Those answers should come before choosing an apparently continuous indoor-outdoor finish.
