A resin bound wearing course needs a considered termination wherever it meets another surface. Letting it become progressively thinner until it disappears can leave a vulnerable edge. The detail should follow the selected system's requirements and suit the loading at that location.
Identify every transition
The driveway may meet a pavement, garage, drainage channel, planted bed or path. Each junction has a different job. A vehicle entrance needs support and a suitable level change, while a planted edge also needs to keep soil from spreading across the finish.
Discuss these locations before the main surface is laid. A neat central area can be undermined by an improvised edge that was never included in the plan. Draw the transitions if a verbal explanation is unclear.
Check depth and support together
The surface should have the thickness required for its intended use. The supporting edge and base need to continue doing their jobs right up to the boundary. A decorative strip does not solve an unsupported substrate or incompatible levels beneath it.
If an overlay raises the driveway, ask how the added height will be handled at the entrance. The answer should be a designed transition, not a very thin margin where the new finish meets the old surface.
Keep the water route clear
An edging profile can alter surface runoff. It should not trap water against the house or accidentally interrupt the intended drainage arrangement. On a permeable system, details around dense features deserve particular attention.
At handover, inspect the perimeter as well as the broad field. Look for consistent, supported terminations and ask how the junctions should be maintained. If an edge later starts to break away, report it before the affected area expands.
Useful question: How does the full specified surface thickness finish at each boundary without leaving a weak taper or an awkward lip?
