UV stability describes a resin binder's resistance to colour change under sunlight. It is an important product characteristic, particularly with pale aggregate blends. It does not mean the finished driveway is immune to dirt, staining, wear or problems caused by unsuitable construction.
Ask about the binder, not just the blend
The same general stone colour can be offered with different binders. Confirm the exact resin system and whether it is specified as UV stable for the intended outdoor use. Keep the product details rather than relying on an informal description such as “premium resin”.
Look at the whole selection: aggregate blend, binder, surface thickness and intended use. A sample should represent the proposed combination. A photograph of similar-looking stones does not confirm that the binder and construction are the same.
Keep expectations realistic
UV-stable resin helps address binder-related colour change. It does not stop leaves leaving marks, tyres carrying dirt onto the surface or oil leaking from a vehicle. Natural stone variation and changing light also influence how the finished colour appears.
Avoid judging a surface solely by a photograph taken in bright sun immediately after completion. View physical samples outside, including in shade and after dampening. The texture and blend can look different at the distance from which the driveway is normally seen.
Construction still matters
A UV-stable wearing course needs suitable support, drainage and edge details. It cannot bridge ongoing base movement simply because the binder has a desirable specification. Installation conditions and the manufacturer's instructions remain important.
At handover, ask for the relevant care information and keep the binder and blend names together. This makes later maintenance advice more specific and avoids treating every resin surface as an identical product.
Quick answer: Choose UV stability for the appropriate product benefit, then assess the rest of the driveway on its own merits. It is one specification detail, not an all-purpose guarantee.
