Pets influence how an outdoor surface is used, even if they are not the main reason for replacing it. A resin bound driveway still needs sensible cleaning and a safe route during installation. Discuss pets at the planning stage so that temporary access and everyday care are not overlooked.
Plan the installation period
Freshly laid material must be protected for the period specified by the installer. Arrange another route for dogs and keep animals away from stored materials, equipment and curing surfaces. A closed front door does not prevent a visiting delivery from opening a gate unexpectedly.
Ask when each area can return to use. The answer should follow the installed system and weather conditions rather than a generic claim that all resin surfaces are ready immediately. Keep barriers in place until the relevant stage has been released.
Keep cleaning straightforward
Remove pet waste promptly and use the supplier-approved cleaning method. Avoid leaving contamination to dry into the texture. Do not apply a strong disinfectant or solvent without checking compatibility with the resin and surrounding materials.
Permeability does not mean spills can be ignored. A surface that lets water through still needs a suitable maintenance routine. Consider where rinse water goes, and keep cleaning chemicals away from animals until the product instructions allow access.
Think about the route, not just the field
Edges, steps and gates may matter more to daily use than the centre of the driveway. A clear walking route beside parked cars can make access easier. Retained planting should be contained so that soil does not continually wash over the surface.
In hot or icy conditions, assess the actual surface before encouraging an animal across it. No paving type should be treated as automatically comfortable or safe in every weather condition.
Before the work starts: Tell the installer which gate your pets normally use and agree a temporary alternative that remains separated from the working area.
